With the Corona economic aid (bridging aid, November and December aid), companies and self-employed people whose sales had fallen significantly due to the pandemic were supported with federal funds of more than 63 billion euros between June 2020 and June 2022. “In the interest of a speedy payment, the applications, which were mostly based on forecasts, were initially approved provisionally,” says Bert Mangels, speaker in the IHK’s start-up, legal and tax department. “From the outset, a subsequent comparison of the forecast with the actually realized business development in a final settlement was planned.”

According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, the federal states’ approval offices have now issued more than 197,000 final decisions. The provisionally granted aid was confirmed in around 36 percent of cases. Around 41 percent of applicants were able to look forward to a back payment, and around 24 percent of the final decisions contained demands for repayment.
