Houston – A 50-year-old man is inโ jail after allegedlyโ choking aโข Houston police department K-9 to โฃthe point of unconsciousness while โคrefusing to comply with officers attempting โฃto remove him from an occupied apartment. The incident underscores the dangers faced by law โenforcement K-9s and highlightsโฃ a pattern of violence against them inโ the Houston area.
Talmadge Blount was discovered inside the apartment after police responded to a call.โข When officers instructed Blount to leave, heโฃ refused,โ leading to the deployment of โฃa K-9 unit. According to court records,Blount โthen choked the K-9,renderingโ itโฃ unconscious.โข Officers used aโค taser to subdue Blount and stop the attack. The K-9 is expected to fully recover.
Blount has been โฃchargedโ with interference with a โคpolice service animal and is โขbeing held on a $40,000 bond. He has a history of prior convictions, including assault of a public servant, terroristic threat against โฃa โpublic servant, and attempted assault of a peace officer.
This incidentโ follows a similar case earlier this year where a K-9 named Rocky was shot in the face by a โsuspect evadingโ U.S.Marshals. Rocky also recovered from his injuries.
KPRC 2 continues to gather more details about the incident involving Blount and the K-9.
