Samsung’s Upcoming Smart Glasses to Feature Transition Lenses, Lack Cellular Connectivity
New details have emerged regarding Samsung’s forthcoming smart glasses, revealing the device – model number SM-O200P – will incorporate transition lenses, wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, and a built-in camera, but will not offer standalone cellular connectivity. The facts, reported by GalaxyClub, provides a clearer picture of Samsung’s strategy as it prepares to enter a competitive smart glasses market.
This distinction in model numbering - SM-O200P versus the SM-I prefix used for the Galaxy XR – suggests Samsung is positioning these glasses as a separate product category, perhaps focusing on a different use case or target audience than its more immersive XR headset. The inclusion of transition lenses indicates a focus on everyday wearability, automatically adjusting to lighting conditions for both indoor and outdoor use.
The glasses are expected to feature a 12MP Sony IMX681 CMOS sensor for the camera, potentially enabling QR code and gesture recognition, according to a previous report. Internal components may also include a Qualcomm AR1 chipset and an NXP semiconductor for auxiliary processing, powered by a 155mAh battery.
Originally rumored to debut alongside the Galaxy XR, the smart glasses’ release date remains unconfirmed. Samsung has not yet announced when it plans to officially unveil the device.
