Nurse Blake‘s “But Did You Die?” Comedy Tour Coming to Ohio
CLEVELAND – Nurse Blake, a registered nurse and comedian known for blending humor with healthcare insights, is bringing her “But Did You Die?” stand-up tour to Ohio this October. The tour will include performances at Temple Live Cleveland Masonic on October 3, the Riffe Center in Columbus on October 5, and the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati on October 6.
Blake’s comedy draws heavily from her experiences in the medical field,resonating with healthcare professionals and the general public alike. She aims to connect with audiences by acknowledging the shared experiences of navigating the healthcare system, whether as a provider or a patient.
“I think whether you’re a nurse or whether you’re a patient or just the general public, we think we always have it worse. ‘This is the worst day ever.’ But it’s like,’But did you die?'” Blake explained in a recent interview with Spectrum News 1.
The show isn’t solely focused on lighthearted anecdotes. Blake is particularly proud of using her platform to address serious issues facing healthcare workers, such as patient abuse. “Being able to bring this up and talk about it in my show and shine a light on something serious that nurses struggle with on a daily basis is something I’m proud of, as even more than comedy, I love advocacy,” she said. She describes the challenge of incorporating such heavy topics into a comedy show, noting, “How do you talk about nurses being abused on the job? Hit, slapped, kicked by patients? It’s not easy.”
Blake recently completed a 30-day inpatient mental health therapy program, an experience that further informed her perspective on the relative weight of everyday struggles. During her shows, she frequently enough uses a running gag involving a member of the audience – typically a first responder – to help bridge the gap between medical jargon and public understanding.
