German Tourist Donates IDR 600 Million to Vietnam Flood Relief
Ha Long bay, Vietnam – December 1, โข2025 – A German tourist, andreas scholz,โฃ has donated IDR 600 million (VND 10 million) to aid victims of recent devastating floods in โคVietnam’s โคsouth-central region. Scholz, movedโ by the plight of those affected, presented the donation to the owner of the Tuan chau โคhotel in Ha Long, where he was staying โขat โขthe end of November.
Scholz witnessed the flooding firsthand on Thursday,Novemberโ 27,2025,observing people stranded and โขawaiting rescue. “Seeing people sitting on the roof waiting for help, I thought I โขneeded to do something.โค At that moment, I felt like I was part of this country,” Scholzโข wrote in a letter โto the hotel owner, Hi. “I’m sure you can help me do this. I love Vietnam andโ its friendly and kind people. I hope I โฃcan โฃhelp.”
Hi, surprised by the “no joke โฃamount of money,” secured Scholz’s permission toโ purchase rice for distribution to those shelteringโฃ from the floods.โ He afterward โbought 830 โฃkg ofโ rice, donating it inโ Scholz’s name.
This isn’t โฃScholz’s first experience โwith Vietnam. He initially โขvisited in December of the โprevious year, touring Sa Pa, Ninh Binh, Hue,โฃ Daโ Nang, โฃand Hoi An. He returned in โขmid-November 2025, โvisitingโ Hoโ Chi Minh City and Daโ Lat. Heโ had planned to visit Nha Trang but alteredโฃ hisโ itinerary due to the flooding,rather traveling to โDa Nang andโข concluding his trip in Ha Long on November 26.
The recent โขtorrential rains have caused historic floodingโฃ in south-central Vietnam,impacting popular tourist โคdestinations โฃlike Nha Trang,Quy Nhon,and Phuโ Yen. The disaster โhasโ resulted โคin at least 98โ deaths and damage to โhundreds of thousands ofโ homes. Scholz, who regularly participatesโฃ in charitable activities in Germany, โฃstated, โ”I wanted toโ share becauseโ there are a lot of people โคwho need โthe money โmore than I โขdo.”
