Seven drivers Face Consequences After Weekend Traffic Stops
St. Gallen, switzerland – A series of traffic stops across the St. Gallen canton on Saturday night and early Sunday morning resulted in seven drivers being taken off the road for driving under the influence or being otherwise unable to operate a vehicle. Police conducted checks throughout the region, leading to the confiscation of licenses and the governance of blood and urine tests.
These incidents underscore the ongoing risks associated with impaired driving and highlight the commitment of local law enforcement to road safety. The consequences for those involved range from temporary driving bans to license revocation, and potential legal proceedings. Authorities routinely conduct such checks, particularly during weekends, to deter impaired driving and protect the public.
The first incident occured around 12:35 a.m. when a 53-year-old driver in Thal was stopped due to erratic driving. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.51 mg/l, resulting in the immediate suspension of his driver’s license. Police also noted insufficient tread depth on two of the vehicle’s tires.
Later that morning, at 6:50 a.m. in Rebstein,a 57-year-old driver was found unable to operate a vehicle safely. Police ordered blood and urine samples and confiscated his license.
In Sargans, at 2:10 a.m., officers stopped a moped carrying three people. The 19-year-old driver was also deemed unfit to drive and was required to provide blood and urine samples, with his license being revoked.
Around 12:30 a.m. in Unterterzen, a 54-year-old driver was observed driving under the influence on Walenseestrasse and received a temporary driving ban.
A 14-year-old moped driver was stopped on Flawilerstrasse in Niederwil at approximately 1:40 a.m. After determining the teenager was unable to drive, police collected blood and urine samples and revoked his license.
Further incidents occurred at 3:30 a.m. in Rieden, where a 57-year-old driver was found unable to drive on Schauenbergstrasse, and at 7:05 a.m.near Steinach, where a 31-year-old driver overtook a police patrol at excessive speed and later failed a sobriety test.Both drivers where required to submit to blood and urine tests and had their licenses revoked – the latter being a foreign license.
