Title: Week 14 and the CFP race’s top 10 games

College Football Playoff Picture ⁢Intensifies with High-Stakes Week 14 Slate

November ‍24, 2023 – The College football Playoff race enters a critical juncture this week with several pivotal matchups ‍poised to reshape the postseason landscape. Three⁤ games stand out as especially impactful, headlined by top-10 clashes that‍ will determine‍ conference championship game berths and at-large contention.

3.No.14 Vanderbilt (9-2) at No. 19 Tennessee (8-3), 3:30 p.m., ESPN

In‌ a historic rivalry meeting, Vanderbilt travels‍ to Tennessee with both teams ranked for the first time in 119 series ⁣encounters.⁤ The Commodores, led by Heisman hopeful quarterback Diego Pavia, need a road ‌upset and‌ favorable ‌outcomes elsewhere to remain in the CFP conversation. Tennessee aims for a seventh consecutive ‌victory over Vanderbilt and seeks momentum heading into the postseason. Vanderbilt has a 29 percent chance of reaching the‍ CFP,while a win would secure the‍ program’s first ‍10-win season.

Line: Tennessee -2.5

2. No. ⁢3 Texas A&M (11-0)⁤ at no.‌ 16 Texas (8-3), ‌Fri., 7:30 p.m., ABC

Undefeated Texas A&M can clinch a spot in the‍ SEC Championship Game with a victory over Texas on Black ⁢Friday. A win would‌ also mark the Aggies’ first undefeated‌ regular season as 1994 (though that season included a ⁤tie and NCAA sanctions). Their last undefeated‌ season without a tie was ‌1939. While⁣ a CFP berth is a longshot for Texas even with an upset,⁢ they can spoil A&M’s perfect season ‌and potentially alter the conference ⁢title game picture. Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning is coming off a‌ six-total-touchdown performance against Arkansas.

Line: Texas A&M -2.5

1. No.⁢ 1 ‌Ohio State‍ (11-0) at ‍no. 15 Michigan (9-2), Noon, Fox

“The Game” takes center stage as Ohio State visits Michigan. The Wolverines have ⁢won four straight in the series, including a stunning‌ upset in Columbus‍ last year. Ohio State, a double-digit favorite, seeks to end the losing streak and exorcise⁢ the demons of past defeats. ⁢Michigan, playing its best football of the season, coudl potentially play its way into the CFP⁢ and the Big Ten ⁣title game‌ with⁣ a fifth consecutive win. The Buckeyes hope⁣ to have their two stud receivers ‍back and are projected to reach the Playoff regardless of the outcome, but a victory over michigan would be a significant step.

Line: Ohio State -10

additional CFP Implications:

Alabama (10-1) is on the CFP cut line, vying for the final at-large ⁤spot. An Iron Bowl victory should be enough to ‌secure a Playoff spot,⁢ but teams below Alabama in the ⁢rankings are ‌hoping for a ‌misstep⁢ by the Tide. Auburn (6-5), facing Alabama, has lost six of ‍its last seven ‌conference games and is playing under an interim head coach, but is less than a touchdown underdog at home.

St. John’s Falls to No. 15 Alabama in Stunning Loss

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor November 9, 2025

St. John’s Falls to No. 15 Alabama in Season Opener

NEW YORK, NY – ⁤ St. John’s suffered a 90-85 defeat to No. 15 Alabama Saturday at Madison Square Garden, failing its first test of the season in ⁢front‍ of a‍ home crowd. The Crimson Tide‘s relentless guard play and efficient shooting proved too ⁤much for the Red storm, marking the most points⁣ allowed by ‍a Rick Pitino-coached St. John’s team in ⁣his three years with the program.

Alabama’s backcourt trio of Mark Sears, Aaron Philon, and Latrell Wrightsell ⁣Jr. combined ⁤for 34 first-half points, shooting ‌13-for-22 from the‌ field‍ and exploiting ⁣defensive weaknesses ⁣to create open looks. The Crimson ‍Tide‌ closed the first half⁢ on a 16-6 ⁤run, culminating in a Sears three-pointer at ⁣the buzzer to take a nine-point lead into halftime, 53-44.

This loss is a significant early-season setback for⁣ Pitino, who is⁢ attempting to rebuild the storied St. John’s program. The game‍ exposed vulnerabilities in the red Storm’s defense and highlighted the need⁤ for more consistent offensive contributions beyond Zuby Ejiofor and David Hopkins, who accounted for 36 of‍ St. john’s 44 points.

“our defense was poor‌ today,” Ejiofor acknowledged after the game.

Despite a strong⁣ start to the second half that briefly brought St. John’s within two points, Alabama responded with a 9-0 run and consistently answered every Red Storm‌ push. The Johnnies were outscored 8-0 in the paint and 21-0 from beyond the three-point line.

Sellers, Jackson,⁢ and Sanon struggled⁣ offensively,⁢ shooting a combined 1-for-10 from the field with three turnovers.

“You can go play somebody and win by 30 points – you see some of the scores last night – ‍you get nothing out of that,” Pitino‌ said. “I think we ‌have the potential to be an outstanding basketball team. But as coach, I need to ⁣find out where ⁣our⁣ deficiencies lie, and I found out tonight. I also found out tonight they’re a group of guys who want to win badly, they just didn’t no⁤ how to do it.”

Alabama emerged from halftime ‍with renewed intensity, scoring ‍three consecutive touchdowns⁢ to seize a 35-21‍ advantage. Milroe connected with Bond for his second touchdown ⁤of the night, and then found Amari Niblack for another ⁢score. A crucial interception by Alabama’s ‍Caleb downs shifted momentum decisively ⁤in favor of the crimson Tide. AP Top 25: Texas, Penn State drop out of poll as Ohio State, Miami lead rankings

AP Top 25: Ohio State‌ Holds No. 1, Texas and Penn State Fall From Rankings

NEW YORK – ⁢ Ohio State remains the nation’s top-ranked⁢ team⁤ in the latest ⁤Associated Press ‌Top 25 poll, released Sunday, while preseason favorites Texas and Penn State both‍ dropped out following recent‍ losses. The ⁤Buckeyes’ continued dominance, highlighted by their impressive roster, solidified their position at No.⁣ 1, narrowly edging out ⁣Miami for the top spot despite the inherent difficulty of ranking teams without degrees of separation.

The shakeup sees Texas A&M climb to No. 3,jumping Oregon, whose best win is currently a road victory at Penn state.⁤ The Aggies’ own signature win came at notre Dame. While acknowledging oregon’s potential, the voter noted the Ducks “definitely look the part” despite the shift.

Both Texas and penn State, previously ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively on the preseason ballot, are now unranked. The voter indicated both programs ⁢have‍ the potential to return‌ to the rankings, citing Penn State’s recent loss to UCLA as a⁢ setback, not a definitive fall from contention. However,⁣ both teams “need to show me something” to earn their way back into ‌the poll.

Memphis enters the Top 25 at No. 23, becoming the first bowl-eligible team in the country with a 6-0 record. They finished last ‌season‍ ranked No. 24. The addition ‍of Memphis, alongside a ranked Vanderbilt despite a loss to Alabama, gives‌ the state of Tennessee three teams in the AP Top 25 – joining no.⁤ 12 Tennessee – for the first time,⁢ according to the College Poll Archive. USF returns to the rankings at No. 24, largely due to⁢ a prior win‍ against⁣ Florida.

Looking ahead, three ranked matchups highlight next week’s schedule:

* ⁤⁢ No.⁣ 1 Ohio State at No. 17 Illinois: This will be the‍ tenth ⁢meeting between the teams while both are ranked, with Ohio State holding a 3-6‌ record in previous encounters, and ⁣having ⁤lost all four since 1964. Illinois has previously ‍defeated top-ranked ⁤Ohio State teams in 1950 and 2007.
* No. 7 Indiana at No. 3 Oregon: This is only the third meeting between⁤ Indiana and ⁤Oregon, and the first since Indiana won in Eugene in 2004, a ‌game marked‍ by seven oregon turnovers.
* ⁣ no. 8 Alabama at No. 14 Missouri: ⁤ Since Missouri joined‌ the SEC, Alabama has won both previous ranked matchups ⁢against the Tigers by a combined score of⁢ 76-13.
