Former US Marine injected for rape-murder of girl


A former Marine United States of America who admitted to raping and killing a 16-year-old girl, was executed in the US state of Mississippi on Wednesday (12/14) local time.

The news agency reports it AFP, On Thursday (12/15/2022), Thomas Edwin Loden (58) was pronounced dead at 6:12pm local time after being administered lethal injection at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman. The Mississippi Department of Corrections said in a statement.

Loden pleaded guilty to abducting Leesa Gray in June 2000, who was stranded by the side of a rural road after a flat tire on her car.

Loden, a rifle sergeant and recruiter in the United States Marine Corps, admitted to repeatedly raping Gray in her van before choking her.

Loden was sentenced to death in 2001. She was the first person to be executed in Mississippi this year and the second since 2013.

About half of the 50 US states allow the death penalty, but as of Wednesday it has been used in just five states so far in 2022: Alabama, Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Loden’s execution made Mississippi sixth.

On Tuesday (12/13/2022), Oregon Governor Kate Brown changed the sentences of 17 pending inmates execution dead in the States it becomes life imprisonment.
