EcuadorS President Survives Shooting During ‍Convoy, Five‌ Detained

Guayaquil, Ecuador ⁤- Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa was unharmed after his vehicle convoy was targeted in a shooting incident Friday, authorities reported. Five individuals have been detained ‌in ⁣connection with the attack, which⁣ occurred as the president traveled in Guayaquil.

The incident unfolded ‍amidst ongoing protests led by the National Federation of Indigenous Peoples (CONAIE) against the government’s recent ⁤decision to end diesel subsidies. While details‌ remain under examination,‌ officials confirmed the convoy was struck by gunfire and pelted with ⁢rocks, causing damage to vehicles. Interior Minister Ines Manzano condemned the attack, stating, “Shooting at the president’s⁤ car, throwing rocks, damaging state property-that’s criminal. We will not allow this.”

The attempted attack underscores the escalating tensions within Ecuador, ⁤a nation grappling with economic hardship and rising crime. CONAIE initiated a nationwide strike 16 days ago, blocking roads and organizing‌ marches in opposition to the subsidy cuts, which they argue disproportionately impact vulnerable populations.⁢ The federation alleges that violence erupted against ⁣those welcoming President Noboa’s arrival, with‌ reports of “brutal police and military action” targeting protestors, including elderly women. CONAIE claims at least five of its members have been arbitrarily detained.

Government-released video footage depicts individuals throwing stones‍ at the convoy, with visible cracks appearing on car windows. ⁣Images also show a vehicle with a broken window and a cracked windshield, though it remains unclear whether bullets ‌directly impacted the president’s vehicle. ⁤

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have vowed to hold those ‌responsible accountable. The incident⁣ raises concerns about the security of Ecuador’s ⁣leadership and the potential for further unrest as the country navigates a period of economic and political instability.

The judge, whose name has not been publicly released, was rushed ⁣to ⁤the ⁢hospital but died en⁤ route from his injuries. Two⁢ other individuals – a father and son involved in the property dispute – were also shot and wounded, and are⁢ currently in ⁣stable condition. the incident raises serious questions about security protocols within Albanian courts and the escalating boldness of criminal activity.

Albanian police stated the perpetrators escaped instantly after the shooting but were later apprehended. Gisele Pelicot Appeal: Man Challenges Rape Conviction

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 6, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Nîmes,France – Gisele Pelicot is set to testify‌ Wednesday as the appeal trial of Husamettin Dogan, one of 51 men convicted in connection with a case involving orchestrated sexual assaults, begins in Nîmes,France. The original trial, concluding in December, revealed Pelicot was the target of a scheme allegedly masterminded by her ex-husband, Dominique Pelicot, who recruited men-many strangers-to sexually assault her while she was incapacitated by drugs.

Dogan, a 44-year-old construction worker, ⁣was sentenced to nine years in prison in December, though the sentence ⁤was postponed due to health concerns. He⁢ is appealing the conviction, maintaining his innocence.‍ “I’m not⁣ a rapist,” ⁤Dogan stated during the initial trial. “It’s too ⁤much for me to endure. She is her husband. I never thought that that man could do this to his wife.”

His lawyer, Jean-Marc Darrigade, told French Press (FP) that dogan believes he was⁤ “trapped” by ‍Dominique Pelicot, asserting, “His ⁤real opponent‍ is not Gisele Pelicot, who deeply‌ respects,‌ but the man who was his husband.”

Dominique⁣ Pelicot, currently in isolation in prison, will appear in court Tuesday for questioning. Gisele Pelicot’s lawyer, Antoine ⁤Camus, ‍stated to FP that while she would ⁢prefer to avoid reliving the‍ trauma, she “understands the attention paid to his case, that, beyond ‍his person, he has a universal meaning.”

The appeal trial is expected to last four days.

Title: Hamas Seeks Prisoner Exchange, End to Gaza War Negotiations

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 5, 2025

Hamas Signals Readiness ‌for Ceasefire, Demands Immediate⁣ Prisoner Exchange in Egypt⁤ Talks

Cairo, Egypt – October 5, 2025 – Hamas ‌officials have expressed a strong desire to reach an agreement to end the ongoing conflict ⁣with Israel and are prioritizing an immediate exchange of‌ prisoners as negotiations resume in Egypt this weekend. Representatives from Hamas and israel are set‍ to participate in indirect talks⁣ in Egypt on⁣ Sunday and Monday, facilitated⁣ by mediators, to finalize details ‍of a potential ceasefire.

The ⁣negotiations‌ come after Hamas approved ‌a peace plan proposed by former ⁣US President Donald Trump. A senior Hamas official, speaking ‍anonymously due to not being authorized to discuss the matter publicly, stated, “Hamas really wants to⁢ reach an⁤ agreement to end the war and promptly start the process of exchanging prisoners in accordance with field conditions.”

The ‍Hamas delegation departed from ‍Doha and is expected ‌to arrive in Cairo on Sunday before proceeding to Sharm ‌El-Sheikh⁤ for the negotiations. According to a Palestinian source close to Hamas, the delegations will be⁣ housed in the same building but ⁤shielded ⁤from media access.

A key focus of ⁢the talks‍ will⁤ be ⁣establishing a timeline and logistical framework for the release of prisoners held⁤ by both sides. Hamas is seeking the ⁣release of ‍approximately⁢ 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, and also over 1,700 Palestinians arrested from the Gaza ‌Strip following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel ‌- the event that ⁢triggered the current conflict. In return, ‌Hamas is expected to‍ present a list⁢ of Israeli⁢ prisoners held in Gaza.

The Hamas official emphasized that⁣ Israel must demonstrate a “sincere intention”‍ to implement⁢ the Trump ⁤plan, adding,‌ “if‍ the occupation has‌ a sincere intention to⁢ reach an agreement, Hamas ‌is ready.”

Beyond prisoner exchange logistics, Hamas is demanding a complete cessation of ‌Israeli military operations throughout the Gaza Strip, including a halt ⁢to⁤ all air ⁢activity, reconnaissance missions, and drone surveillance, as well as a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from within the⁢ city of Gaza. In response, Hamas and other resistance ‍factions have pledged to cease their own military actions.

Negotiators are also ⁢expected to discuss ⁣a map⁤ detailing the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops, synchronized with the⁢ prisoner exchange process.

This round of ‌negotiations represents a significant step towards potentially ending the nearly ‌two-year-long conflict, but the success of the talks hinges on both sides’ willingness ⁤to ‍compromise and adhere to the terms of the proposed peace plan.
