Ubisoft has established a new, independent subsidiary, a venture that began earlier this year. This new entity, partially owned by Tencent following a substantial investment of EUR 1.16 billion, will independently manage some of Ubisoft’s most iconic franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
on Wednesday, the company announced the appointment of charlie guillemot as the Chief Executive Officer of this new business. Guillemot brings a wealth of experience, having previously led the Ubisoft-owned Owlient Mobile Studio. He then ventured out to co-found the Web3 Indie company, UNAGI, before rejoining Ubisoft earlier this year.
Joining Guillemot as co-chief is Christophe Derennes, who formerly headed the company and managed Ubisoft’s successful Montreal Studio, also serving as Ubisoft’s North American Managing Director.according to Ubisoft, the core responsibilities of these two leaders will be to “define brand strategy and vision” and to “create the right conditions for teams for the highest level of operation.”
In an interview with The Variety, Charlie Guillemot acknowledged his familial connection to Yves Guillemot, stating it is no secret. However, he emphasized that his experience over the past decade, both within and outside Ubisoft, leading teams and guiding brands, is what truly matters now. He believes his name is secondary to the notable work that lies ahead for the new studio.
