Englewood‍ Health Surgeon Resigns Following Controversy Over Comments on Charlie Kirk shooting

Englewood,⁢ NJ ⁣- A surgeon at Englewood Health has resigned following a⁢ controversy sparked by alleged comments made regarding the‌ shooting of conservative activist Charlie ⁣Kirk.Dr. Matthew jung’s departure comes after a lawsuit was filed by a nurse alleging discrimination based on religious beliefs, ‌stemming from her ‍criticism of Jung‘s alleged⁣ reaction to the⁤ September 10th shooting.

The lawsuit, filed in⁢ Bergen County, alleges that nurse Keunzle questioned whether jung’s⁣ response to the shooting – reportedly offering ⁤to buy lunch for the nursing staff – was consistent with‌ the Hippocratic Oath and the American Medical Association’s⁣ Code of‌ Medical Ethics. Keunzle identified Kirk as “a Christian ‍leading figure.”

Keunzle ⁢claims she was‌ suspended without pay⁢ after her online comments, shared on Instagram, came to the attention ⁤of the hospital’s human‍ resources department. She alleges the suspension constituted discrimination due to her Christian‌ beliefs.

Englewood Health released a statement acknowledging the situation, stating, “As this is a personnel matter with an ongoing examination, we are limited in the details we can share.‍ Englewood ⁢Health remains committed to ensuring a respectful, safe, and professional environment for ⁣all employees and patients.”

Attempts to reach Dr. Jung have been unsuccessful. His contact page on⁤ the⁣ Englewood Health website and his LinkedIn profile ⁢have both been removed.‍ Online reviews of Jung have appeared on websites like WebMD following the incident.

The shooting of Charlie Kirk, 31, at Utah Valley University on September 10th, and the subsequent arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, have fueled ⁢concerns about escalating political violence. Robinson is currently not cooperating with ⁤investigators, according ‍to Utah Governor spencer Cox.

US Secret Service Agent Placed on‌ Leave Following Anti-Charlie Kirk⁣ Facebook Post

WASHINGTON – A US Secret Service agent has been placed on administrative leave following a Facebook post perceived‌ as celebrating the death of ⁤conservative activist Charlie Kirk, according to a statement released Friday by the agency. ⁢The agent, identified ‌as Sosh-Lightsy, is under investigation⁣ for‌ violating⁤ agency social media policies.

The⁢ incident is the latest ⁢in a series of employment‍ consequences stemming from public reactions to Kirk’s death. The fallout highlights the increasingly ⁢scrutinized intersection of⁣ personal opinions, social media activity, and professional repercussions, notably for ⁤those in positions of public trust or wiht visible public roles.

“The Secret ⁢Service takes ⁢all allegations of misconduct⁤ seriously,” the agency’s ⁣statement,⁣ as reported by MTSU News, reads.”This employee has been‍ fired ⁣effective immediately. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Kirk ⁤family.”

The firing of Sosh-Lightsy is part of a ‌broader pattern of swift ⁤action taken ‍by organizations against employees expressing controversial views following Kirk’s death. A Marine was also fired over⁣ an‍ anti-Charlie Kirk post, MSNBC terminated ‌analyst⁤ matthew Dowd⁣ over on-air comments made ‌after the shooting, Ole Miss dismissed an⁢ employee for related comments, and the ‌Carolina Panthers fired their communications coordinator over instagram‌ posts referencing the activist’s slaying.

Further illustrating the sensitivity ‍surrounding public expression in the wake of ⁣the incident, a reporter for ‌Floridapolitics.com was suspended for texting a Florida state representative a question about gun control reform shortly after Kirk was killed.

experts note the pervasive nature of public scrutiny in the digital age. “No matter how private your⁢ life is,everybody has⁣ an audience,” Karen⁣ North,a professor of ⁤digital ⁤social media at the University of Southern California, told USA TODAY in ⁣2024. ”And there’s always ⁤an audience for people misbehaving.”

Stephen King Apologizes for Spreading False details ⁣About Charlie Kirk‘s Death

WASHINGTON – Author Stephen King issued‌ a public ‍apology Friday for sharing inaccurate information⁤ on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. King ‍initially posted, than deleted, a claim suggesting Kirk had been killed, later attributing his error to a⁤ lack of ⁣fact-checking.

The apology followed⁣ a flurry of criticism after King retweeted a post about Kirk’s alleged death, responding to it by calling the author of ‍the original post a “horrible, evil, twisted liar.” Kirk was not killed; the initial report was false. King subsequently acknowledged his mistake, stating, “The horrible, evil, twisted⁢ liar apologizes. This is what I get for reading something on Twitter (without) fact-checking. Won’t ‌happen again.”

Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, responded to King’s initial post and later praised the author for apologizing and ⁤deleting the inaccurate information. “All of us – on⁣ both sides of the aisle – should treat each other with respect & decency, even if we disagree on politics,” Cruz wrote on X. “Charlie did ⁣that every day,‌ and I admired⁤ him for it.”

King offered‍ multiple apologies on X, including one responding to biologist Colin Wright, ⁤who warned that such “extreme rhetoric” could incite violence.

The incident occurred amid‌ heightened political tensions following ⁤the release of a video on Sept. 10 in which former President Donald Trump blamed “radical left” rhetoric for Kirk’s supposed slaying, claiming they were “directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re ⁣seeing in our country today.” TV host Jimmy Kimmel subsequently condemned Trump’s response, arguing it exacerbated division‍ rather than fostering unity.

Gary barksdale, an OU math professor and faculty adviser‍ to the Turning ‌point chapter, called for the students at⁢ the OU vigil to hold onto Kirk’s memory. “Charlie was ⁢impactful to me in such a way because he let me know that the ⁢fire of patriotic devotion is‍ in the heart of our youth,” Barksdale said.

Kalib ⁤Magana, president ⁣of the OU chapter for Turning ⁤Point USA,⁣ said he was‍ in disbelief⁣ when he‍ heard Kirk was killed.
