Manhunt Ends, One in Critical Condition After Croydon Park Shooting
Sydney, Australia – A man is in critical condition and an alleged gunman is in custody following a shooting in Sydney’s Croydon Park on Sunday night. Police responded to reports of gunfire in the suburb around 9:00 PM, initiating a large-scale operation involving tactical police, a police helicopter, and an armoured Bearcat vehicle.
The incident unfolded across multiple vehicles and properties, sustaining gunshot damage, according to Acting Superintendent Parry. Forensic officers are continuing investigations Monday morning to fully assess the extent of the damage.
An ABC reporter at the scene reported hearing gunshots followed by what witnesses described as flash grenades. One witness recounted hearing “something like fireworks going off” and discovering shattered glass from a car windshield and bus stop. He described the scene as a “volley of gunshots back and forth.”
Police secured the scene “fairly quickly,” Acting Superintendent parry stated, commending the officers involved. “they exhibited extreme levels of bravery in doing what they did,” he said. “They were under rapid fire gun shots on a number of occasions and should all be commended for their actions.”
authorities have not confirmed whether police returned fire during the incident, stating the crime scene is still under examination.
