SXSW Sydney 2024: A Global Party of Music & Creativity Takes Shape

The festival has announced a significant addition of 20 international artists, enriching an already vibrant roster. American indie rock favourites whitney will grace the stage, alongside Irish powerhouse Picture This making their highly anticipated Australian debut. Joining them are fellow Irish act The Boom, renowned for their energetic live performances that have captivated audiences of over 4,000 at their exclusive raves. From the Philippines, breakout singer-songwriter Angela Ken and streaming sensation Maki – both boasting billions of streams – will bring their unique sounds. Taiwan’s Modern Cinema Master adds a dose of post-punk energy with their distinctive lo-fi textures. Representing the UK are acclaimed rapper-producer Lex Love and rising jazz artist Amy Gadiaga.
The Australian contingent is equally impressive, featuring electronic artist I am in the meantime, whose critically acclaimed debut album has earned universal five-star reviews. The enigmatic 2charm adds an air of mystery, while Drifting Clouds, originating from bunhungura/Gapuwiyak in the Northern territory, will deliver a captivating blend of synth-pop, 80s influences, rock, and country. Canberra’s Sonic Reducer promises an intense experience with their raw mix of punk, rock, and garage, and Sydney’s underground scene contributes the experimental four-piece xiaoxiao, fusing dream pop and hip hop with a punk edge.
The Walk To Austin Award: A Pathway to Global Recognition
SXSW Sydney is thrilled to partner with Johnnie Walker Black Ruby to launch the Walk To Austin Award, designed to champion emerging musical talent. A panel of industry experts will select one exceptional performer from the Johnnie Walker Black Ruby House stage,based on creativity,originality,and global appeal. The winner will receive the incredible prospect to showcase their talent at SXSW® 2026 in Austin, Texas.
A City Immersed in Sound
The festival’s energy will extend beyond the main stages, transforming Sydney into a dynamic hub of musical discovery. The Chippendale Music Precinct will become a focal point for showcases,intimate sets,and networking opportunities,with prominent partners like the British Music Embassy,Laneway Festival x Outside Lands,Rolling Stone,and triple j leading the charge. New venues, including the historic Eveleigh hotel and outdoor stages at the Seymour Center and Kensington Street, will ensure a vibrant atmosphere throughout the city.
