SUV Collides wiht School Bus in Italy, Driver Dies, Twelve Injured
Oderzo, Italy – A car and a bus carrying approximately fifty students collided this morning in oderzo, in the province of Treviso, Italy, resulting in the death of the SUV driver and injuries to twelve others, including the bus driver. The incident has prompted renewed focus on school transport safety standards nationwide.
The collision occurred during a school trip, raising concerns about the vulnerability of students during educational travel. While the full circumstances are under inquiry,authorities have praised the bus driver’s rapid thinking and composure in mitigating further harm.Twelve individuals sustained injuries,but have been discharged from hospital,including all of the students involved.
Stefano Cerchier, president of the atvo transport company, lauded the driver’s actions, stating, “Despite being bruised, even if not seriously, our driver had a cool head and promptness, thinking first of all about the safety of the kids.” Cerchier added the company extends its “most sincere condolences” to the family of the deceased driver and expressed gratitude for the driver’s efforts to ensure passenger safety following the impact.
Education Minister Giuseppe valditara echoed the sentiment, offering ”heartfelt closeness” to the students and thanking first responders – including fire brigades, healthcare personnel, and police forces – for their “timely intervention.” Valditara emphasized that the “protection and safety of students…represent an absolute priority” for the Ministry of Education and Merit.
The Ministry intends to review and potentially raise the quality requirements for vehicles used on school outings and trips to “guarantee increasingly higher standards” in the wake of this tragedy.
