Interior Ministry Hosts Lavish Event Amidst Austerity Measures
Bratislava, Slovakia – Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok is moving forward with a two-day “notable days” event for the Ministry of the Interior, projected to cost approximately €800,000, as the country grapples with parliamentary negotiations on fiscal consolidation-including potential tax adn levy increases. The event’s cost has drawn scrutiny, with initial estimates from the opposition placing the figure at €600,000, while the Movement Slovakia party suggests it could reach nearly €1 million.
The timing of the event coincides with recent protests by police officers and firefighters over planned salary freezes. Despite this, Šutaj Eštok defended the expenditure as “an effective spending of money,” arguing it allows for both wage increases and a presentation of appreciation for first responders. He stated that salaries have already increased by €70 million this year, with tens of millions more invested in new technology.
“It’s for the public,” Šutaj Eštok saeid, adding that he intends to organize a similar event next year, even as state authorities recommend a thorough examination.
The minister also voiced a desire to promote positive role models for children, stating, “We want our children to look up to police officers, firefighters and not any poffidium influencers from progressive cafes.” He did not specify which influencers he was referencing.
The event will include a display of a problematic firefighting vehicle and the distribution of raincoats.Details regarding the Incheby area event are currently unavailable due to a paywall.
