Panama Authorities Seize 32 Packages of Suspected Drugs Marked with ‘Super Mario’ Imagery
Panama City, Panama – National aeronaval Service (Senan) agents intercepted 32 packages of alleged illegal substances hidden within a refrigerated container at a Pacific port terminal. The cargo originated in San Vicente, Chile, was transiting through Panama, and destined for Sydney, Australia.
The drugs were concealed within the cooling panels of the container. Authorities were alerted to the irregularity through aeronaval intelligence and coordinated with the Panama Drug Prosecutor for a search. Notably, the packages were marked with the iconic character from the “Super Mario” video game franchise-a tactic commonly used by drug traffickers to identify their shipments.
This seizure brings Senan’s total drug packages confiscated to 35,447 as the beginning of 2024, recovered through 88 operations nationwide.
“Each operation reinforces security in the national territory and demonstrates that drug trafficking always remains a step back when you run into the law,” stated Senan officials.
The investigation is ongoing.
