Super League 2025/2026: PSIM Yogyakarta Stuns Persebaya as Season Begins

Surabaya, Indonesia – August 9, 2025 – The 2025/2026 Indonesian Super League (formerly League 1) launched yesterday, August 8th, with a series of matches that instantly delivered drama and unexpected results. Newly promoted PSIM Yogyakarta shocked hosts Persebaya Surabaya with a 1-0 victory, marking a notable upset in the opening day of competition. This win immediately positions PSIM as a team to watch in the new season.

The league, undergoing a branding shift to the Super League, features 18 teams vying for the championship title. The opening weekend focused on showcasing the three teams recently promoted from Liga 2: PSIM Yogyakarta, persijap jepara, and Bhayangkara FC.

Persijap Jepara also secured a positive result, earning a hard-fought 1-1 draw against PSM Makassar at the Gelora BJ Habibie Stadium in Makassar. The draw represents a valuable point for the newcomers as they adjust to the higher level of competition.The match saw a strong turnout, with an estimated 25,000 fans in attendance.

Though, Bhayangkara FC faced a more challenging start, falling 1-0 to Borneo FC Samarinda at the Segiri Stadium. Borneo FC’s victory, secured by a goal from striker Muhammad Rafi in the 35th minute, demonstrated their strength as a home team.

Saturday’s Fixtures: Title Defense Underway

Today,August 9th,the spotlight shifts to Bandung as reigning champions Persib Bandung begin their campaign to secure a third consecutive Super League title. They will face Semen Padang at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 15:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). Persib Bandung, led by coach Bojan Hodak, are heavily favored to contend for the championship once again, boasting a squad featuring key players like David da Silva and Marc Klok.

Following the Persib Bandung vs. Semen padang clash, two more Week 1 matches will take place, both kicking off at 19:00 WIB.

Dewa United will host Malut United at the Indomilk Arena in Tangerang, while Madura United will welcome Persis Solo to the gelora Ratu Pamelingan Stadium in Pamekasan.These matches promise further excitement and insight into the competitive landscape of the 2025/2026 Super League.
