Summerlin South Little League Champions to Ignite Raiders Game with Al Davis Memorial Torch
Las Vegas, NV – Teh U.S. Little league Baseball World Series champion Summerlin South team will have the honor of lighting the al Davis Memorial Torch before Monday’s Raiders versus Chargers game.
The team earned the prestigious opportunity following a remarkable season that began in May. Summerlin South dominated competition throughout the District and State Tournaments, and then the Mountain Region, securing their place at the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, pennsylvania. Facing elimination, the team rallied to defeat Connecticut 8-2, claiming the U.S. Little League World series title.
Summerlin South joins a distinguished group of individuals who have lit the torch sence the tradition began on October 18, 2011, with the late John Madden as its inaugural torchbearer.Mrs. Carol Davis, the First Lady of Raider nation, was the first to light the torch in Las Vegas, honoring her late husband prior to the Raiders’ first game at Allegiant Stadium on September 21, 2020.
The Al Davis Memorial Torch, first lit in Oakland, has as been illuminated by Raiders alumni, celebrities, and dedicated fans before each home game. It serves as a tribute to Al Davis’s lasting legacy as the Raiders’ owner, a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, AFL Coach of the Year, AFL Commissioner, and the driving force behind the team’s “Commitment to Excellence.” The torch embodies Davis’s belief that “the fire that burns the brightest in the Raiders’ organization is the will to win.”
