Sugar Reunion: Bob Mould & Band Release New Music, Announce Tour Dates

by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Sugar, iconic⁤ 90s choice rock band fronted by Bob Mould, has announced its return with a new‍ song – their first in 30 years – and a⁣ limited run of concerts in New York and London. The band, known for its blistering energy ‌and emotionally raw⁤ songwriting,‍ will perform at Webster Hall in‍ New York⁣ City on May 2nd and 3rd, followed by shows at‍ Kentish Town Forum in London on may 23rd and 24th.

The reunion marks a significant moment for fans of the influential band, who disbanded ‍in ‌1995 after releasing three critically acclaimed albums: Copper Blue, Beaster, and‍ File under:‍ Easy Listening. while the members briefly reconvened around their 20th anniversary in 2011, Mould ⁣explained to⁢ Rolling Stone, “we‍ all walked away⁢ thinking, ‘Eh, not⁣ right now.'” ⁢The new single, and ‌subsequent‍ decision to play shows,⁢ came after regrouping in the studio last year. Mould stated, “But the riff ⁢is ‌definitely a Sugar-type riff,‍ and it was⁢ fun to get the three of us⁤ on the ⁢floor together to record for the first time in ages.”

The band’s future activity will‍ be guided by the response ⁤to the new‍ music and shows, according to Mould. “I don’t‌ want to get out too ⁤far in front of the skis, as they say. People’s reactions will⁣ probably‍ guide a lot of⁣ the possibilities in front of us, whether it’s more ‌songs ⁢or⁤ more⁤ shows. All ⁣three ‍of us are all ⁢in for whatever feels right. I just want to see⁤ if people are still interested.”

Alongside the reunion ⁣declaration, a 4xLP reissue of Sugar’s ⁤debut album, Copper ⁤Blue – The Singles Collection, is slated for release ‍next month for‍ Record Store Day. A Hüsker Dü live ‌box set, 1985: The Miracle Year, is also due out ⁢next month.
