Sudhakaran in Kannur: Congress Workers’ Reception & Silent Exit
Kannur, Kerala – Congress leader K. Sudhakaran arrived in Kannur today, greeted by enthusiastic party workers at the airport, as he prepares to contest the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. The reception, led by Rijil Makutti and Muhammed Shammas, signals a significant shift in the Congress’s candidate strategy following internal disagreements over his candidacy.
Sudhakaran’s confirmation as the Congress candidate for the Kannur constituency comes after a period of contention with the party high command. Earlier this month, Sudhakaran publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the candidate selection process, stating via Facebook that Kannur held a special place in his heart. According to reports, several state-level Congress leaders initially opposed the idea of Members of Parliament contesting Assembly seats.
The impasse appeared to be resolved on March 19th, with the high command ultimately yielding to Sudhakaran’s insistence on contesting from Kannur. Sources indicate that senior party leadership intervened to address the uncertainty surrounding his candidacy. This decision also led to a reassessment of other candidate allocations, with Adoor Prakash reportedly excluded from his previously anticipated seat.
Upon arrival, Sudhakaran briefly addressed the media, stating he was fatigued and would refrain from making further comments at that time. He did, however, affirm his commitment to the party, stating, “I will remain with the party. The party is much larger than I am. I am not one to challenge the party. The decision is to remain loyal to the party.” He also clarified that he would only contest if he received the party’s official endorsement.
The Congress leader’s arrival and planned participation in the elections mark a notable development in the political landscape of Kannur, a key constituency in Kerala. Sudhakaran is expected to participate in political rallies and engagements in the coming days, though a detailed schedule has not yet been released.
