Strange Light Coffee and Books Opens its Doors in morgantown
Morgantown welcomes a new haven for book lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and board game aficionados. Strange Light Coffee and Books, located at 304 Willey St., officially opened on April 30, offering a unique blend of literary treasures, caffeinated delights, and engaging pastimes.
A West Coast Dream Finds a Home in West Virginia
The shop is the brainchild of Morgaine Sanders, a California native who traded the film industry for the charm of Morgantown. Sanders, according to the shop’s website, buys and sells used books and games, hosts events, and serves coffee and bagels.
I used to work in the film industry. During Covid, when we where all locked up, I decided I wanted a change. So, I started researching the East Coast. After a few road trips I found Morgantown and fell in love.
Morgaine Sanders, Owner of strange Light Coffee and Books
Sanders’ journey to Morgantown was sparked by a desire for change and a cross-country road trip. She found the community welcoming
and her passion for coffee inspired her to create a space where others would feel at home.
more Than Just a Coffee Shop
Strange Light Coffee and Books aims to be a community hub, offering more than just retail.Sanders envisions a space where people can connect, create, and unwind.
I want it to be a place where people feel welcome.

Book Exchange Program
The shop features a book exchange program, allowing customers to donate used books and receive a credit of 50 cents per book. This credit can be used for up to 15% off future purchases.
The used book part came from my hometown Ojai, California. We had a great used book store called Bart’s Books. I was privileged enough to go to a lot growing up, and I wanted to recreate that for someone.

Events and Board Games
A private room is available for rent at $10 an hour per group, with Sanders hoping the shop will become a popular event venue.
I would love it if we had people interested in hosting events here. I am open to most things if we have the space.
