Stockholm Bus Crash Leaves Multiple Dead, Driver Detained
Stockholm, Sweden - A bus crashed into a bus stop in central Stockholm on Friday at 15:23 (14:23 GMT), leaving three people dead and three injured, according to Swedish police. Teh incident occurred on Valhallavägen street, near the Royal Institute of Technology university.
Police have arrested the bus driver on suspicion of causing death and bodily harm, but stated there is “currently no indication that the incident was intentional.” Authorities are working to identify the victims and have not yet steadfast if passengers were on board the bus at the time of the crash.
Witnesses described a horrific scene.one shop owner on the street told SVT that the bus struck a pole in front of the bus shelter, prompting several people to seek refuge in thier store while crying. Another witness told the Expressen newspaper the bus “mowed down an entire bus stop queue,” adding that people were screaming and attempting to assist the injured as others lay deceased on the ground. “There must have been more people under the bus,” she said.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences, stating via X, “People who might have been on their way home to family, friends, or a quiet evening at home. We do not yet know the cause, but right now my thoughts are primarily with those affected and their loved ones.”
