Steelers Elevate James Pierre: Roster Move Ahead of Jets Game

by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Steelers Elevate James Pierre‍ for Week 1 Matchup Against Jets

The Pittsburgh ⁤Steelers have elevated⁤ cornerback/special teamer James ⁣Pierre to ⁣the active/inactive roster from the practice ⁢squad⁤ ahead ⁤of their Week 1 game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on September 6, 2025. Pierre will revert⁣ back to the practice squad following the game.

Pierre initially joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent and previously spent time with ⁣the Washington Commanders before returning to Pittsburgh⁢ in 2024.He was re-signed‌ during the 2025 offseason after becoming ⁣a free agent.

In 2024, Pierre appeared in⁢ 15 games for‍ the ⁢steelers, starting ⁢two. ⁣He recorded 12 tackles, eight solo, and⁢ one interception against the cleveland Browns in Week 14, ⁣helping secure a 27-14 victory at Acrisure Stadium.

The roster move ⁤raises questions about the availability of other players, specifically outside linebacker Nick Herbig, who was limited during ‍the week with ‌a hamstring⁣ injury. It remains to be⁤ seen ⁢if Herbig will be inactive, potentially leaving the ⁢Steelers ‌with only three natural outside linebackers and ‍requiring Malik Harrison to take repetitions ‍at the position.
