Fuse Games, a studio founded by veterans of Criterion Games, is launching Star Wars: Galactic Racer for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026, the developers confirmed this week.
The game, set in the New Republic Era, distinguishes itself from recent open-world Star Wars titles by focusing on traditional track-based racing. Creative director Kieran Crimmins confirmed the decision to avoid an open-world format in a recent interview, emphasizing a return to focused racing gameplay. The campaign will follow a character named Shade as he rises through the ranks of the Galactic League, an underground racing circuit, and contends with a rival racer, Kestar Bool.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is positioned as a “runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing” taking place in the Outer Rim, according to a publisher’s summary. The Galactic League emerged following the fall of the Empire, fueled by syndicates and a growing obsession with speed. Fuse Games CEO and founder Matt Webster noted the studio’s history with racing games informed the project, referencing their previous work on the Burnout series.
The multiplayer mode will support player-versus-player racing with up to twelve participants, and will feature customizable builds. Fuse Games was established in 2023, drawing talent from the teams behind Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), both of which featured vehicle combat elements. Lucasfilm Games is publishing the title alongside Secret Mode.
The game’s story mode centers on Shade’s journey to become an elite pilot within the unsanctioned races of the Galactic League. No release date beyond 2026 has been announced.
