Springfield Police Cite Oregon WR Evan Fitzgerald Stewart For DUII
Springfield police arrested University of Oregon football wide receiver Evan Fitzgerald Stewart early Sunday, Oct. 18, and issued him a citation for driving under the influence of intoxicants, according to Springfield police and court records cited by Lookout Eugene-Springfield.
Police Arrest Stewart for DUI on Highway 126
Police stopped Stewart’s vehicle on Highway 126 near Mohawk Boulevard at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday, according to a police news release. Officers suspected driver impairment during the encounter and initiated a DUI investigation. Springfield Municipal Court records show police cited Stewart at 5:34 a.m.
Officers booked Stewart into the Springfield Municipal Jail following the arrest. Online records indicate he was released later the same day. No court appearance date has been scheduled yet.
Stewart Leads Ducks Receptions Despite Injury History
Stewart, a 23-year-old fifth-year senior from Memphis, Tennessee, missed Saturday night’s home game against the University of Nebraska due to injuries. He began his college career at Texas A&M before transferring to Oregon in 2024. Two seasons ago, he earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors, though he did not play last season because of injury.

Despite missing time, Stewart leads the Ducks this season with 37 receptions for 352 yards and four touchdowns. The team is scheduled to play at the University of Illinois on Saturday.
“We are aware of the incident and are gathering information at this time,” a UO athletics spokesperson stated to Lookout Eugene-Springfield.
Prior University Arrests
The citation marks the second DUII case involving a member of the Oregon football program within the calendar year. Oregon running backs coach Ra’shaad Darnell Samples, 31, was charged in April with DUII and reckless driving after allegedly backing his truck into a parked car in downtown Eugene. Samples’ next court date is set for Oct. 27.
