Spotify is developing an in-app music recognition feature designed to rival dedicated identification apps like Shazam, according to code discoveries reported by Frandroid. The functionality would allow users to identify tracks playing around them directly within the streaming application.

Code strings uncovered within the application’s mobile packages point to active engineering work on the tool. Frandroid reported that the upcoming feature aims to simplify how listeners capture and save unfamiliar songs heard in public spaces or through external media.

Integrating a direct search tool inside the player addresses a frequent user workflow. Listeners currently switch between separate third-party utilities and the Spotify interface to save newly discovered tracks to their playlists.

Company representatives have not yet announced a formal release timeline or confirmed rollout dates for the audio identification tool.
