Spotify SongDNA: Explore Music’s Hidden Connections & Credits
Spotify is rolling out SongDNA, a recent feature for Premium subscribers that reveals the interconnectedness of music creation, beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The tool allows users to explore the writers, producers, and collaborators behind a song, as well as samples, interpolations, and cover versions, offering a deeper understanding of a track’s origins and influences.
Available within the Now Playing view of the Spotify mobile app, SongDNA appears as a dedicated card on supported tracks. Tapping the card unlocks a network of connections, enabling listeners to trace the creative lineage of a song and discover related artists. According to Spotify’s announcement, the rollout will be completed for all Premium users throughout April.
The feature aims to provide greater transparency into the often-complex process of music production, highlighting the contributions of those beyond the performing artist. Users can navigate through these connections, discovering how artists, eras, and genres intersect. For example, Spotify demonstrated how SongDNA can link Harry Styles to Wu-Tang Clan through a chain of shared collaborators, spanning John Mayer, Pino Palladino, D’Angelo, The Roots, and others.
Spotify acquired the online music database WhoSampled in November 2025, and the company has leveraged this data to power SongDNA. The feature builds upon Spotify’s existing “About the Song” functionality, expanding the information available to listeners. TechCrunch reported in October 2025 that Spotify was developing this feature, with references to it appearing in the app’s code.
SongDNA also offers benefits for artists and the wider creative community. Spotify stated that eligible artist and label teams can review and manage the components of SongDNA in Spotify for Artists, ensuring accuracy and control over how their musical story is told. This empowers creators to engage with fans by showcasing collaborations and influences, potentially leading to new discoveries for listeners and new connections within the music industry.
The rollout of SongDNA positions Spotify alongside other streaming services offering detailed music credits, such as TIDAL’s interactive credits. Though, Spotify’s integration of community-sourced data, alongside information provided by artists and their teams, aims to create a more comprehensive and dynamic experience. The feature is currently in beta, with Spotify continuing to evolve it based on user feedback and data analysis.
