Spotify Deepens Music Finding with Expanded Credits & New Features
Spotify is considerably enhancing its platform for both artists and listeners, moving beyond basic song facts to offer a richer, more connected music experience.The streaming giant is introducing expanded song credits alongside two new features – “SongDNA” and “About the Song” – designed to illuminate the creative process and the relationships between tracks.
For years, Apple Music has led the way in displaying thorough song credits, detailing contributions from instrumentalists, engineers, and other key personnel. Spotify, historically limited to songwriter and producer information, is now aiming to bridge that gap. As announced in a recent blog post, Spotify intends to “inspire fans to delve deeper into your creative world and process” through these new developments.
The expanded credits will pull data directly from labels and music distributors, initially launching on mobile with a desktop version to follow. This will provide greater visibility to the wider network of creatives involved in bringing music to life – from sound engineers to instrumentalists.
Beyond credits, Spotify is introducing “SongDNA,” an interactive feature visualizing the connections between songs. This will showcase collaborations, samples, and cover versions in a dynamic, map-like interface. To power this feature, Spotify has acquired WhoSampled, a well-respected platform known for its community-driven database of musical influences.
Complementing “SongDNA” is “About the Song,” a storytelling feature for Spotify Premium users.Accessible within the “Now Playing” view, this will present swipeable slides offering insights into a song’s origins, inspiration, and cultural context, sourced from third-party content providers.
Spotify plans to roll out “SongDNA” and “About the Song” through Spotify for Artists in early 2026, allowing artists to preview the features, verify accuracy, and provide valuable feedback before a wider release. This move signals Spotify’s commitment to fostering a more transparent and informative environment for both creators and music lovers.
