Spotify Elevates Streaming with Lossless Audio for Premium subscribers, No added Fee

Stockholm, Sweden – Spotify today ⁤announced the rollout of lossless audio streaming ⁣to its Premium ⁤subscribers globally at no additional cost, a move poised to reshape ⁢the landscape of digital music consumption. The upgrade, initially tested in select⁢ markets, delivers music in CD-quality, offering a considerably richer and more detailed listening experience.

The introduction‌ of lossless audio addresses a growing demand from ⁤audiophiles and users with high-end audio equipment for ⁣higher fidelity streaming options. While experts note the difference is most perceptible with specialized devices and ⁤trained‍ ears, the update brings Spotify in line with competitors offering similar high-resolution audio tiers. ⁣

Users‍ will receive a notification within the Spotify⁤ app‌ when the function becomes available. Manual activation requires navigating to profile > Configuration > Audio ⁤Quality, and then ⁢enabling “Transmission without loss” for Wi-Fi, mobile data, and downloads. Users can also adjust the quality ⁣settings to manage data consumption.

The lossless audio feature extends beyond mobile devices, supporting compatible computers and‍ devices utilizing Spotify Connect, including speakers and headphones from brands like Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser. Currently,⁣ each device requires independent configuration as settings are not automatically synchronized across platforms.

Spotify acknowledges limitations to the new feature. The Bluetooth standard currently⁢ does not support transmitting FLAC audio without ⁣compression, prompting a recommendation for wired headphones or Wi-Fi connected speakers. Lossless files also require more storage space and may experience a‍ slight initial loading delay.

Furthermore, while Spotify’s catalog exceeds 100 million songs, the lossless audio function does not yet encompass all tracks, with some remaining available only in compressed versions.
