On September 26, the seventh-ranked Spokane Velocity kept their USL League One playoff hopes alive by defeating third-place Forward Madison 1-0 at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wisconsin. Midfielder Jack Denton scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute, handing Forward Madison their first home loss in 16 matches and bringing Spokane’s points total to 43 as they fight for one of five available postseason bids.

Spokane entered the match teetering on the edge of missing the postseason for the first time in the league’s three-year history. Having lost eight games this season, the team faced relentless pressure from a Forward Madison squad that controlled 62 percent of possession.
