Specialty Dentistry DSOs: 7 Updates on Growth & Investment | Becker’s Dental

Houston-based Specialty1 Partners is accelerating growth initiatives for specialists in endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery, the company announced February 3, 2026. The expanded program aims to facilitate a faster transition from associate positions to full partnerships within its network of practices.

The initiative, described as an industry-leading joint venture model, recently facilitated a partnership transition at West Shore Oral Surgery in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, where Dr. Danielle I. Holland was elevated to ownership following the acquisition of a retiring doctor’s practice. “Designed to empower specialists with true equity ownership and clinical autonomy, our JV model reflects Specialty1 Partners’ commitment to leading the industry through innovation and continuously finding better ways to support our doctors,” said Dr. Daryl Dudum, Co-CEO of Specialty1 Partners. Dr. Holland stated the opportunity “changed my career trajectory,” allowing her to “lead, build relationships, and grow something that reflects my clinical philosophy and patient values.”

The move by Specialty1 Partners comes as the specialty dental sector experiences increased activity. Other dental service organizations (DSOs) are also focusing on strategic growth. Franklin, Tenn.-based Specialized Dental Partners intends to concentrate on partnerships and integrated care, while Irving, Texas-based U.S. Oral Surgery Management is enhancing its core functions to support doctor growth. These efforts reflect an anticipated increase in demand for specialized dental services.

Beyond oral surgery, pediatric dentistry has demonstrated resilience, experiencing growth in both its workforce and financial stability. DentalMonitoring, an artificial intelligence company focused on orthodontics, recently secured a $100 million investment from two new investors. The American Association of Orthodontists has also released a position paper outlining core principles for integrating AI technologies into orthodontic practices.

However, not all developments are proceeding without challenges. The Dental Board of California has paused consideration of proposed changes to orthodontic assistant training requirements following opposition from multiple organizations. Specialty1 Partners, which supports over 220 practices across 28 states and includes more than 350 specialists, continues to expand its network, according to the company.
