Teen Driver’s Snapchat Videos Reveal Reckless Speeding Before Fatal Crash

February 14, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

A 21-year-vintage woman has been jailed for more than six years after causing a crash in Gloucestershire that killed two people and seriously injured three others. Liberty Mitchell, of Chipping Norton, was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday for causing death by dangerous driving.

The case hinged on evidence revealed by Gloucestershire Police, including footage Mitchell herself filmed on Snapchat in the days leading up to the fatal collision. Police stated the videos demonstrated a “lack of care for driving safely.” One clip showed Mitchell’s vehicle swerving onto the opposite side of the road, prompting shouts of alarm from passengers. Another depicted her driving at 100 miles per hour on a country road.

The crash occurred less than a month after Mitchell passed her driving test. On the day of the incident, she was travelling at 96 mph in a 60 mph zone when she collided with a vehicle driven by Octavian Codreanu, a taxi driver. His passenger, Moyra Whelan, also died as a result of the crash. Three other individuals sustained serious injuries.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death by driving whilst uninsured, and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.

According to a statement released by Gloucestershire Police, the Snapchat footage was key to understanding Mitchell’s reckless behaviour. The police investigation revealed a pattern of dangerous driving, culminating in the tragic collision. The sentencing follows a thorough investigation and prosecution by authorities.
