Sparta Newcomer Duijvestijn Faces Hostile Reception from Former Fans at Excelsior
Rotterdam, Netherlands – sparta Rotterdam midfielder Rick Duijvestijn experienced a jarring homecoming Sunday, subjected to jeers and threats from excelsior supporters during and after SpartaS victory in Kralingen. The hostile reaction stemmed from Duijvestijn’s recent transfer from Excelsior to their rivals, Sparta.
The tension escalated during the warm-up and following the final whistle,with some Excelsior fans attempting to access the pitch.
“It was a lot, all in all,” Duijvestijn told Football International. “I think they have forgotten what I meant for the club last year. I did my best every day to get the club back to this level. then you come here and then you will be received extremely poorly. That is disappointing.”
Duijvestijn expressed confusion over the animosity. ”I don’t know what I owe it to,” he continued. “Yes, it will be because of my step to sparta, but it is not that I wanted to challenge them today. I was just happy that we won. You grab three points, ther is discharge and the Sparta supporters have received me fantastic. Then I will not be a dead bird for the branch…”
Making his debut for Sparta, Duijvestijn played over fifteen minutes after recovering from a pre-season injury. “I am especially happy that I play football again,” he said. “I really missed it very much. I want to show myself a whole season in the Eredivisie.”
