‘South Park’ Episode Delayed, Details Remain Scarce
Comedy Central has delayed tonight’s new episode of South Park, citing a simple admission of running out of time. “We didn’t get it done in time,” the show’s creators announced in a statement posted online. “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”
It remains unclear whether the delayed episode is the one originally scheduled for last week. Comedy Central is releasing few details internally. The delay comes one week after the death of Charlie Kirk, a conservative pundit who was recently parodied on the show. The second episode of the 27th season featured Eric Cartman as a right-wing podcaster modeled after Kirk, who tours college campuses for debates. The episode also included “The Charlie Kirk award for Young Masterdebaters” at an awards show.
Kirk publicly responded to the parody, posting a TikTok calling the episode “hilarious” and stating, “South Park gets this right.” He added, ”We have a good spirit about being made fun of.This is all a win. We as conservatives have thick skin, not thin skin, and you can make fun of us and it doesn’t matter.”
Creators Trey Stone and matt Parker, along with Comedy Central, have not commented on whether Kirk’s death on September 10 influenced the episode’s delay.South Park has been airing episodes with week- or two-week gaps between them this season. Upcoming episodes are currently scheduled for October 15, October 29, November 12, November 26, and December 10, all at 10 p.m.
The season 27 premiere was initially delayed due to negotiations surrounding a new streaming deal and concerns related to the Paramount-Skydance merger. South Park debuted on Comedy Central in 1997 and is executive produced by Stone, Parker, Anne Garefino, and Frank C. Agnone II.Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, and Vernon Chatman are producers, and Christopher brion is the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.
