South Korean Insurers Drive Growth with All-in-One Device and Cybersecurity Subscription Models

November 8, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

ShinEZ General Insurance and KB Insurance have launched subscription-based device care bundles across appliance retail and telecommunication channels, moving beyond traditional standalone insurance policies, the insurance industry reported. An insurance industry representative noted that while market expansion clearly faces limits with standalone mobile phone insurance alone, a subscription-based model layered with security and repair services significantly lowers consumers’ subscription resistance and added that partnerships in the form of embedded insurance, where insurance naturally blends into telecommunications carriers or large-scale home appliance distribution networks, will become more active moving forward. The new offerings merge manufacturer repair warranties, loss and theft coverage, and dark web personal data monitoring into a single monthly subscription.

Device Care Bundles Replace Traditional Standalone Policies

South Korean non-life insurers are increasingly partnering with insurtech firm bolttech Korea to embed protection plans directly into gadget sales. ShinEZ General Insurance joined Lotte Hi-Mart’s purchasing lineup for the iPhone 18 Pro series to offer loss and theft protection alongside AppleCare services and European Assistance dark web monitoring. Meanwhile, KB Insurance partnered with LG United Plus to introduce a monthly subscription combining tablet and PC exchange compensation with family personal data exposure tracking.

These cross-industry alliances consolidate repair guarantees, loss policies, and cybersecurity tools into a single checkout window. Customers can secure comprehensive protection at the exact point of device purchase or telecom enrollment, removing the need to manage separate vendor contracts.

Consumer Threat Perceptions Demand Proactive Monitoring

Insurer interest in cyber security bundles stems from shifting threat recognition among policyholders. According to bolttech’s 2026 Asia-Pacific Cyber Safety Report cited in the industry data, 77 percent of domestic consumers have encountered fraud threats. Furthermore, 94 percent express concern regarding artificial intelligence-enhanced cyber crimes.

Willingness to pay for cyber protection stands at 67 percent among surveyed users. Real-time monitoring and alerts emerged as the most requested feature, capturing 80 percent of preferences. Policyholders increasingly prioritize advance warnings over traditional retroactive reimbursement claims.

B2B2C Channels Create Strategic Lock-In for Retailers and Insurers

Retailers and telecommunication operators benefit from recurring subscription revenues and improved customer retention following hardware sales. Non-life insurers gain access to massive business-to-business-to-consumer distribution networks that ease traditional customer acquisition friction. Embedded insurance models allow protection products to integrate smoothly within existing consumer touchpoints.

Industry participants warn that complex bundling requires meticulous cost transparency. When multiple services share a single subscription fee, consumers face difficulties parsing the exact cost allocated to each specific protection item. Unclear boundaries between manufacturer warranties and insurer liabilities risk generating customer disputes at the time of a claim if retail staff fail to provide explicit operational guidance.

Another insurance industry representative diagnosed that for the era of standalone insurance to fade and combined subscriptions to take hold, ‘transparency that is easily understood at a glance’ must be supported alongside ‘the convenience of joining at once’, and emphasized that the market can settle in only after the coverage scope and cost structure are clearly notified, and a compensation experience where accidents are resolved one-stop through a single window is built up.
