The Tech TL;DR:

  • Malik Orsan converted a 48-yard field goal as time expired on Saturday night, lifting South Carolina past No. 11 Tennessee 27-24.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — LaNorris Sellers accounted for three touchdowns and Malik Orsan nailed a 48-yard field goal as time expired to lift South Carolina past No. 11 Tennessee 27-24 on Saturday night, according to reports from the Associated Press. Sellers rallied the Gamecocks (4-3, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) in the final minutes, while the defense delivered a decisive strip sack and fumble recovery against Tennessee quarterback George MacIntyre with 33 seconds to play to set up the winning kick.

Sellers threw for a touchdown and ran for two others, including the tying score with 1:17 left on the clock. Moments later, MacIntyre fumbled after a sack by Dylan Stewart, and defensive tackle Tomiwa Durojaiye recovered the loose ball at the Tennessee 34-yard line. South Carolina ran the clock down to 3 seconds, leaving Orsan to easily put the 48-yard attempt through the uprights for the walk-off win.

Fans rushed the field at Williams-Brice Stadium to celebrate South Carolina’s second straight ranked victory. The program previously defeated then-No. 16 Florida two weeks prior at The Swamp. The game appeared out of reach minutes earlier when the Volunteers, leading 24-17, went for a fourth-and-1 with 3:35 remaining on South Carolina’s 39-yard line, but MacIntyre was stuffed.

Sellers capitalized on the turnover on downs. On third-and-goal, he was hit by two defenders but fought through contact to reach the pylon for a touchdown that officials upheld on review. Tennessee had previously rallied from a 14-0 deficit to take a 24-17 lead, but the defense could not contain Sellers in the closing sequence.

On the opposing side, Tennessee tailback DeSean Bishop rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown. Despite Bishop’s output, the Volunteers fell short in Columbia for the second time.
