Sony Pictures International Productions Acquires Worldwide Rights to Adapt Wattpad YA Romance Series Boulevard
Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) has acquired worldwide rights to adapt Flor M. Salvador’s popular young adult book series Boulevard, in partnership with Webtoon Productions. A frist film adaptation is currently in production in Spain, based on a screenplay by bestselling YA author Javier Ruescas.
The Boulevard series centers on the forbidden romance between high school students Halsey Weigel and Luke Howland.Halsey, grappling with addiction, finds herself drawn to Luke despite his troubled reputation, hoping to see beyond the judgments of others. The story explores whether their connection can overcome their individual struggles.
The first three books – Boulevard, After him, and Before Her – have amassed over 140 million reads on Wattpad, with a fourth installment, Eternal, planned for release. Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial initially published Boulevard and After Him in Mexico in 2022, selling over 189,000 copies in the region. Boulevard was the best-selling young adult fiction title in Mexico in 2022, and the first two volumes, along with an illustrated hardcover edition, reached the Top 10 in the category in 2023.
