All 55 people aboard a Starsky Aviation flight were safely evacuated Tuesday after the aircraft overran the runway at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia, and came to rest in shallow water near a beach.

The Fokker 50 aircraft, registration number 60-YAS, had departed Mogadishu en route to Gaalkacyo when it experienced a technical problem approximately 15 minutes into the flight, according to the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA). The pilot subsequently returned to Mogadishu for an emergency landing.

Despite successfully initiating the landing, the aircraft veered off the tarmac and ended up on the shoreline of the Indian Ocean, Starsky Aviation CEO Ahmed Nur stated. “The aircraft overran on the runway,” Nur said, adding, “No injuries, no deaths.”

Somali Transportation Minister Mohamed Farah Nuh confirmed that all 50 passengers and five crew members were safely evacuated and accounted for by a rescue team. He indicated that the aircraft sustained damage, and an investigation into the cause of the incident has been launched.

The SCAA reported that at 1:17 PM local time, the runway overrun occurred. All occupants were transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, though no fatalities have been reported.

Images from the scene indicate the aircraft with at least one wing damaged, but largely intact, resting on the beach.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, according to reports from the Associated Press and Sky News.
