Tina Fey Joins Amy Poehler for Surprise ‘SNL‘ Return, mocking Political Figures and AI Concerns
NEW YORK – Amy Poehler made a triumphant return to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, delivering a monologue filled with self-deprecating humor and pointed jabs at the evolving entertainment landscape, bolstered by a surprise appearance from longtime collaborator Tina Fey. the duo, known for their comedic chemistry on “SNL” and beyond, also took aim at current political figures, with Poehler portraying Florida’s former Attorney General Pam Bondi in a recurring sketch.
Poehler, reflecting on her history with the show, shared a childhood dream of being on the “SNL” stage. “It’s always a dream come true to be here. I remember watching the show in the ’70s, sitting in my house in Burlington, Massachusetts, thinking: ‘I want to be an actress someday – at least until they invent an AI actress who’s funnier and willing to do full-frontal,'” she said. She later playfully challenged the hypothetical AI competitor, declaring, “Beep, boop, beep, boop beep beep,” which she translated as: “You’ll never be able to write a joke, you stupid robot! And I am willing to do full-frontal, but nobody’s asked me, OK?”
The episode featured a skit parodying Netflix’s ”The Hunting Wives,” re-imagined as ”the straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama.” Aubrey Plaza, a former “SNL” intern and “Parks and Recreation” co-star, appeared as a “new new girl” whose revelation of having a girlfriend triggered a comically violent reaction from the other characters.
A “Weekend Update” segment saw Poehler, fey, and Seth Meyers joining current anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che for a quiz show-style battle. Role Model served as the musical guest, performing “sally,When The Wine Runs Out” with a special appearance by Charli XCX. The show concluded with a tribute to Oscar-winning actor Diane Keaton, who died earlier Saturday at the age of 79. Sabrina Carpenter is slated to host and perform on next week’s episode.
