‘SNL‘ Faces Cast Departures as Bowen Yang, Devon Walker, and More Exit
Several cast members are leaving Saturday Night Live ahead of its 51st season, including Bowen Yang, Devon Walker, and emil Wakim, signaling a period of transition for the long-running comedy show. The exits follow a season marked by ratings challenges and evolving audience preferences, prompting speculation about the direction of the show as it prepares for its premiere on October 4th.
The departing cast members represent a mix of tenures, with Yang having served six seasons, Walker three, and Wakim one. These changes, coupled with the earlier departure of castmember Punkie Johnson last year, suggest a potential reshaping of SNL‘s ensemble as executive producer Lorne Michaels and veteran castmember Kenan Thompson have previously indicated cast changes were anticipated.
Devon Walker announced his departure, prompting supportive messages from fellow cast members. Chloe Fineman wrote on Instagram, “I’ll miss being your pregnant wife all the time!!!!!” while Gardner added, “I love you.” Shannon also commented, “So nice meeting you devon! Wishing you so much continued success.”
Emil Wakim, who shared on social media that his exit wasn’t his choice, received support from former castmember Punkie Johnson, who responded, “Omg at first glance I thought this was a birthday post… this is really truly surprising… I’m glad you are focusing on the good and are proud of yourself and the work you put in not many people can say thay were on SNL and for the 50th in legendary… You a legend baby… Outside ain’t bad. Welcome back.” fineman also commented, “Your such a stat and ill miss sitting next to the best dressed man at table read!!!”
Gardner, a castmember for eight seasons, has not yet commented publicly on her departure.
Lorne michaels and Kenan Thompson have alluded to upcoming cast changes. It remains unclear whether additional cast members will depart before the season 51 premiere.
