Snapchat has launched a new feature allowing users to permanently save conversations, responding to long-standing user demand. The “Infinite retention” feature, tested since 2024,offers a setting to disable disappearing messages on a per-conversation basis. Snap stated, “We’ve often heard from our community that Snapchat users want the ability to save their conversations forever.”
Previously, saving messages required individually tapping and holding them. The new setting simplifies this process, and when activated, the other participant in the chat is notified and has the option to disable the feature for their side of the conversation. This allows for selective preservation of chats, such as maintaining a permanent record with close friends while keeping ephemeral messaging for other contacts.
Alongside Infinite retention,Snapchat is also introducing “Group Streaks.” Traditionally, Snapchat Streaks-representing consecutive days of snap exchanges-were limited to two users. Group Streaks allow multiple friends to contribute to a single streak, which continues as long as a majority of participants maintain the daily exchange.
