Samsung SmartThings Upgrade: Health Integration and Enhanced Smart Home Control

The digital home is getting smarter. Samsung has updated its SmartThings platform, introducing deep integration with Samsung Health and Matter 1.4 support. This update promises a more responsive and personalized smart home experience for users, blending health data with home automation.

New Features and Functionality

This significant update to SmartThings incorporates several key improvements. A noteworthy feature is the Sleep Environment Summary. It provides a visual summary of the user’s sleeping environment’s quality, giving insights into temperature, humidity, and brightness, along with helpful suggestions. This allows for automated adjustments to connected devices.

The platform now supports Matter 1.4, ensuring broader compatibility with third-party devices. The user interface has been revamped. It makes routine management easier, and users can broadcast voice messages to connected devices, like TVs and speakers. The inclusion of a “Calm” section simplifies the installation of new devices for all users.

“The idea is to make the house an intelligent refuge, suitable for the rhythm of its user. Thanks to the personalized flows, the platform not only connects, but understands needs and rhythms to suggest better configurations.”

Jaeyeon Jung, Manager of SmartThings

The smart home market is experiencing rapid growth. The global smart home market is predicted to reach $195 billion by 2028 (Statista, 2024), showing an increasing consumer interest in connected devices and home automation.

Future Developments

Looking ahead, Samsung plans to integrate neural networks, such as edge AI, for data analysis. It aims to implement predictive sensors for pipe maintenance and detect behavioral shifts. This will allow SmartThings to evolve into a proactive, adaptive smart home ecosystem, according to Samsung.
