Smart TV Users Largely Stick to Pre-Installed Apps, New Data Reveals
Table of Contents
Amsterdam, Netherlands – Despite the expansive capabilities offered by Smart TV app stores, a meaningful portion of users aren’t taking advantage of the added functionality. A newly released report indicates that over 40% of Smart TV owners exclusively use the apps that come pre-installed on their televisions.
The findings, detailed in the latest Dutch smart TV Monitor conducted by Telecompaper in collaboration with Hypersolid, reveal a considerable reluctance among users to explore and download new applications. Specifically, 42% of Smart TV users have not installed a single additional app since purchasing their device.
Age Plays a Key Role in App Adoption
The study also highlights a generational divide in app usage. While 66% of younger Smart TV users regularly install new apps, that figure drops dramatically for older demographics. Among individuals aged 68 and over, only 39% supplement their pre-installed apps with additional downloads.
Netflix Remains the Dominant Streaming Choice
When it comes to app popularity, Netflix reigns supreme. An impressive 81% of Smart TV owners launch the streaming service on a weekly basis. YouTube follows as the second most popular app, with 35% weekly usage, closely trailed by videoland at 36%.
Samsung Leads the Smart TV Market in the Netherlands
In terms of Smart TV brand market share within the Netherlands, samsung currently holds the largest portion with 47%. LG secures the second position with a 20% share, while Philips rounds out the top three with 16%.
This data underscores a potential prospect for app developers and TV manufacturers to better engage users and promote the benefits of expanding their Smart TV experience.
