Former Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Ho Ching, attended a performance by local busker Bryan Wong, also known as “brylights,” at Rainforest Wild Asia on Valentine’s Day, according to a video posted on Wong’s Instagram account.
Wong, a full-time busker, shared a video on February 14th showing Lee and Ho Ching waving and smiling at the audience. In the video, Wong panned across the crowd to highlight the couple’s presence. He described himself as “stunned like vegetable” by their attendance, according to captions accompanying the post.
According to Wong, he initially noticed Lee whereas the former prime minister was addressing the audience and was unsure whether to acknowledge him. Before he could decide, the audience had already reacted to Lee’s presence. Wong then announced Lee’s attendance, prompting cheers from the crowd. He described Lee as “very nice” and noted that he waved back at the audience.
Wong recounted a playful exchange with Lee during the performance, joking, “Sir, you’re really cool, but this is still my demonstrate.” He expressed regret that he hadn’t brought his 360-degree camera, as he was unable to record the interaction. He had also decided to use a heavier Cyr wheel – 3kg heavier than his usual equipment – which he used for the first time in two years, leading to a more challenging performance.
Despite the equipment difficulties, Wong received a video of his performance from an audience member, showing Lee and Ho Ching clapping as he performed on the Cyr wheel. He described the experience as “really fun.”
