Joinville Massacre: Survivor Remains Hospitalized in Serious Condition
Joinville, Brazil - Rita de Cassia Pereira Araujo Silva, 60, remains hospitalized in serious condition following a shooting early Thursday morning that left her daughter and two grandchildren dead in the Saguaçu neighborhood. The incident, described by neighbors as involving approximately 20 gunshots, culminated in the suicide of the perpetrator, identified as 49-year-old Ramzi Mohsen Hamdar.
The tragedy unfolded around 3 a.m. when neighbors alerted authorities to the sound of gunfire. Hamdar’s brother discovered the scene later that morning, finding him deceased with a firearm at the residence.Police responding to the scene also found the bodies of Hamdar’s wife, Iolly Araujo Silva Berilo, and their children, ages 11 and 15.
Silva was attended to by a SAMU team and transported to São José Hospital. As of the latest update from the hospital, her condition is listed as serious and she is receiving ongoing care.
According to the Military Police, officers discovered the bodies of the victims while searching the home. Ingrid, hamdar’s stepdaughter, was found with multiple gunshot wounds, while her 11-year-old sister was discovered on a bed in a separate room. Silva was found near a door, and the 15-year-old was located nearby. A .380 Caliber pistol was found near Hamdar’s body.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation by civil and scientific police.
