San Francisco, CA – November 9, 2023 – Salesforce-owned Slack today announced a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features aimed at boosting productivity and simplifying information access within its platform.the updates, unveiled in a blog post, allow users to pull data from external tools like Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, Confluence, and Box directly into Slack, receiving consolidated answers and summaries generated by AI.
Traditionally a communication hub, Slack is evolving to offer more robust organizational and explanatory functionalities. The platform now automatically generates transcripts from “Huddle” meetings, records key decisions, and stores them within slack Canvas, Slack’s collaborative document editing space launched in September 2022. Users can now draft briefs and tasks using natural language processing, streamlining workflow.
For global teams, slack’s new translation feature enables message translation with a single click, regardless of the original language. The AI also provides contextual explanations for technical jargon and company-specific terminology, drawing on past conversations and internal knowledge bases. This feature leverages Salesforce’s existing AI capabilities, including Einstein GPT, announced at Dreamforce 2023 in September.
A new relevance control function minimizes interruptions by ensuring AI notifications are only triggered when content offers significant urgency or value beyond the user’s current task. This aims to reduce cognitive load and maintain focus.
The redesigned profile view consolidates information about colleagues’ roles, activities, and contributions, facilitating quicker coordination within teams.
Salesforce is integrating these AI features into a broader strategy centered around AI agents, dubbed “Agentforce,” which will interact with platform components like Customer 360 and Einstein AI, creating a unified human-machine interface. This integration is part of Salesforce’s broader $3 billion annual investment in AI.
