Skidmore Freshman Claims First ITA Regional Singles Title in ‍Seven ⁢Years

SARATOGA SPRINGS,⁣ NY – Skidmore College freshman‍ Ginevra Muratori secured the ITA Northeast Regional Singles‌ Championship title⁤ on Sunday, marking the program’s first singles champion ⁤as 2018. Muratori’s victory, coupled ‌wiht‍ a strong showing from her and teammate Amelie Gonzalez in ⁤doubles play, highlighted a accomplished hosting of the ⁣regional tournament for the thoroughbreds.

The​ championship run underscores‌ a promising start ⁤to the season for Skidmore’s women’s tennis team ‌and earns Muratori an automatic berth into next month’s ITA ‍Cup tournament. this regional success positions ​the Thoroughbreds⁢ favorably‌ as they head into the remainder of ‍their fall schedule ‍and the spring dual match season.

Muratori reached the championship match after a​ dominant 6-1, ‌6-0 victory over RPI’s Kaaviya Kannan in the⁢ semifinals. She then defeated NYU’s Victoria Wang 6-4, 6-2⁢ to claim the ⁣singles title. Throughout the tournament,Muratori consistently ‍overcame higher-seeded opponents,demonstrating her skill and competitive drive.

In doubles competition, Muratori and ​Gonzalez advanced to the championship match with‍ an 8-5⁤ semifinal win ⁤against‍ NYU’s Kast and Bondarenko,‍ also securing ‍their place in the ITA Cup⁣ tournament. The duo faced⁤ a tough challenge from RPI’s Jaiswal ‌and Ridenour in the final, ultimately ⁣falling 8-3⁢ despite a strong start.

Skidmore ⁤will continue its fall season with a dual match against Union ​on Thursday at 6:30 PM at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center.
