Six60, Stan Walker and Fat Freddy’s Drop Headline New Mount Maunganui Festival Kingston Calling

September 1, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Six60, Stan Walker, and Fat Freddy’s Drop will headline Kingston Calling, a vibrant new two-day music and culture festival transforming Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on February 19 and 20, 2027. Presented by Fabrik and Mai FM, the event unites 14 artists across two days to celebrate the musical legends of Aotearoa and the Pacific.

The Genesis and Logistics of Kingston Calling

Set against the backdrop of Mauao, the festival aims to establish a new benchmark for live music and destination events in the Bay of Plenty. According to Fabrik founder and festival director Toby Burrows (Ngāti Hauā), the event takes its name and spirit from historical gatherings. “In times of old, people gathered around a call. Kingston Calling is built on that same idea, a call that has now been answered,” Burrows said, as reported by Eventfinda. Featuring premier production values, the event pairs global heavyweights like Arrested Development, Soja, Rebel Souljahz, and Maoli with top-tier homegrown talent including Fat Freddy’s Drop, Stan Walker, Six60, Stan Walker, and additional acts.

Headliners and Daily Lineups

The two-day schedule features a distinct blend of international marquee acts and foundational local talent. Friday, February 19, showcases performances by Maoli, Stan Walker, SOJA, Arrested Development, Katchafire, Hori Shaw, and A.R.T. Saturday, February 20, shifts the spotlight to Six60, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Rebel Souljahz, Te Wehi, Aaradhna, Marley NZ All Stars, and Myshaan.

Matiu Walters (Ngāpuhi), lead singer and guitarist of Six60, noted that the band looks forward to returning to the Mount. “All of the boys are excited about playing with such a great lineup and what a great place to do it. It has been a while since we have been in the Mount, so Kingston Calling will be a special one for us,” Walters said, according to Muzic.nz coverage. He added that the wairua at the Oval creates a unique atmosphere for both artists and fans.

Government Support and Economic Impact

The festival receives backing from the New Zealand Government’s one-off Events Attraction Package, highlighting its role in stimulating regional commerce. Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston noted, as reported by Eventfinda, that the festival is anticipated to draw attendees from across the nation to Tauranga, offering a much-needed boost to accommodation, hospitality, and tourism providers in the area.

Fabrik has integrated safety initiatives such as the Ask for Angela / Andrew protocol and the Kingston Calling Safe Space Policy to foster an environment of manaakitanga throughout the weekend.

Presale for Kingston Calling opens on Wednesday, September 9, followed by general ticket sales on Thursday, September 10, via the festival’s official website.
