Siobhán McSweeney: Traitors Ireland is ‘nerve-racking’

Behind the Scenes of ‌ The Traitors Ireland at Slane⁣ Castle

The upcoming series,The ⁣Traitors Ireland,is generating excitement,as evidenced by⁢ host Siobhán McSweeney’s admitted nerves – noticeable even in a slight tremor as she prepared for her 50th cup of tea of the day. Despite being a relatively new show, the format already carries ‌a notable ⁤legacy.

Filming for the Irish adaptation took place at Slane Castle, ⁤which operated under tight security with two checkpoints⁢ and a specific, anticlockwise route for the production team, respecting the home of the Mount Charles family. Shortly before filming, the family mourned the loss of Lord‌ Henry Mount Charles, ‍but his son, current⁤ owner Alex Mount Charles, warmly greeted visitors during their tour. Described⁢ as strikingly similar‌ too his father and possessing an effortless charm, Alex acknowledged the importance of events held at Slane Castle in “putting ⁣Slane and ⁤Ireland on the map” and helping to maintain the extensive property.

Alex Mount Charles confirmed that his family continued to reside on the upper floors of the castle during filming, praising the production team and describing the experience of living within a television set as “unreal.”

The castle’s various rooms⁣ have‍ been repurposed for the show. The green-walled kitchen now ⁢features a large table for contestant gatherings and speculation, while⁤ the lounge – where U2⁣ recorded The Unforgettable Fire decades ago -‌ is another key location. A library provides additional seating, and ⁣the entrance hall has been transformed into a breakfast room where contestants learn of overnight eliminations.

Central to ⁣the show is the Round Table room, used for both activating the initial traitors and conducting the banishment ceremonies, where contestants debate⁢ and vote to eliminate suspected⁣ traitors.

producer Darren Smith noted the intention⁤ to allow the ⁤game to deeply affect the contestants. Siobhán McSweeney, when asked‌ about uniquely irish characteristics on display, expressed her belief that ‌countries don’t possess inherent personalities, but acknowledged the interest in comparing the Irish version to ⁤international adaptations. She playfully encouraged viewers to watch and form their own opinions. The Traitors Ireland premieres on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sunday, August 31st.
