Singer Porsche 911: Red Bull Collaboration & Modern Restorations

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Singer Vehicle Design has partnered with Red Bull Advanced Technologies to enhance the structural rigidity of its reimagined Porsche 911 Targa and Cabriolet models. The collaboration, announced earlier this month, aims to address a longstanding characteristic of open-top 911s – a lack of torsional stiffness compared to their coupe counterparts.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the engineering arm of the Red Bull Technology Group, brought its expertise in Formula 1-level simulation and structural analysis to the project. This involved utilizing advanced computational modeling to identify areas for improvement in the 964 Cabriolet and Targa chassis. The goal was to achieve a level of rigidity comparable to that of a coupe, without significantly increasing weight.

According to a press release from Singer, the partnership focuses on the company’s Classic Turbo services, where existing Porsche 911s are meticulously restored and reimagined. The reengineering efforts center on increasing the torsional stiffness of the open-roof shells. The application of carbon fiber is a key component of the solution, allowing for a substantial increase in rigidity.

The collaboration marks the first official partnership between Singer and Red Bull Advanced Technologies. Singer is known for its highly personalized restorations of air-cooled Porsche 911s, while Red Bull Advanced Technologies specializes in high-performance engineering. The combination of these skills is intended to deliver a driving experience that maintains the classic perceive of the 911 while offering improved handling and stability.

Forbes reported that the reengineering delivers coupe-like rigidity. MSN noted that Red Bull helped Singer fix one of the Porsche 911’s biggest flaws. Carbuzz highlighted that Singer is working with Red Bull to build the classic 911 better.

Further details regarding the specific engineering solutions and performance improvements are expected to be released as the project progresses. Singer has not yet announced a timeline for the availability of the enhanced Targa and Cabriolet models.
